My Iftar food walk

Iftar is the religious observance of breaking a fast  when the azaan is called out by muezzins from mosques after sunset. This happens during the holy month of Ramadaan or Ramzaan like how it is known here in in India. About five years ago, we started going to the iftar spreads to indulge in the meaty treats at Frazer town, Bangalore. It continues even now.

Sussegad in Goa

I’ve had wonderful experiences of my very many trips to Goa. There was a time when we would be in Goa 4-5 times a year. That slowly waned as life and other things reigned supreme. The type of trips to Goa also changed as time passed. Shack stays turned to resorts, south Goa weighed over the more ‘popular’ north, but the slumming away on the beaches, the sussegad* way of life and the feelings the place evoked remained the same.

360º – A walk to remember

My friend Tina and I were vegging out one afternoon at her awesome apartment located at the Dubai Marina. We were bored and were deliberating that we find a place to let our hair down and listen to some music. BB (Tina’s husband) suggested 360º, an iconic, energetic and trendy beach club for its amazing night view of the city among other things. He then proceeded to make reservations for the three of us that evening. When we reached the Jumeirah beach hotel, the view took my breath away!

The Arabian desert safari

After a leisurely breakfast/brunch earlier in the day at Jones the grocer, Tina and I decided on the Desert Safari which was on my to do list at Dubai. Plans were made for us to be picked up close to her apartment block and we received a call from the Safari organizers saying that a black land cruiser was waiting for us near a specific landmark. It was all pretty straightforward.

Shakespeare & Co.

When I heard my friend Tina say we’ll go to Shakespeare and Co. , my first thought was “oh! goodie, we get to see a play!” I failed to see her knowing grin. 🙂 I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived and saw to my delight that Shakespeare and Co. was a café!!
With a fully loaded french patisserie, homemade chocolates, petit fours and viennoiseries – a new word I learnt, meaning breakfast pastries like croissants, brioches and the like. The mere sight of those baked goods had me singing hallelujah to the heavens. Reiterating me being a foodie through and through!

Breakfast @ Jones the grocer

I am always interested in trying out new eateries.
The whole experience of experimenting with something new, soaking in the ambience and atmosphere, oohing over the food presentation, the food by itself …, interests me. My very good friend and soul sister Tina, knowing this about me talked about Jones the grocer (JTG), an Australian gourmet chain serving food, lip-smacking delicacies and having its own grocery store. I was immediately taken in by the thought of this “destination(?!) café”, if you will.

And the beats go on

It had started drizzling slowly on a lazy Saturday afternoon. Post lunch with nothing to do, a few family members and I decided to go on a drive. It was the perfect weather and we were on our way. There is nothing more blissful than when you are in your car, with an open road ahead of you and most importantly having your favorite music accompanying you.
